Supporting our Members

The Museum Development Network (MDN) represents the workforce directly engaged in delivering Museum Development services to museums across the United Kingdom. This workforce includes regional Museum Development Officers but also includes Officers delivering thematically focussed services including conservation and collection care, audience development, workforce development, volunteering and digital engagement. Museum Development teams have been developed in response to the priority needs of the museums they serve.

The MDN provides an annual national conference, which has been provided through the support of the Association of Independent Museums (AIM) for several years and which is held on the day before the national AIM conference. The MDN has collated the priority skills needs of its members as part of activity carried out at the previous two MDN conferences. Following this work, the MDN Committee is developing a programme of national skills sharing events and will be seeking external funding in order to deliver these across key places across the UK. A briefing on skills for the MD workforce will be available via the Members area shortly.
