During Covid-19, MDN is working with colleagues and partners to support the museum sector. In particular, we are following the government’s guidance plus advice from our main funder, Arts Council England and the Department of Culture, Media and Sport.

MDN committee continues to meet on a quarterly basis on Zoom. In addition, Committee leads for England and colleagues at Arts Council England are meeting virtually twice monthly to share regional news and intelligence, identify museums and collections at risk, discuss emergency funding packages and local responses to the Coronavirus.

The MDN chair, co-chair and coordinator are liaising with our partners at AIM (Association of Independent Museums) about  museums and collections at risk, emergency funds and other interventions available to support the sector.

The MDN committee is developing collaborative funding proposals to cultural trusts and foundations to support museums that may not be eligible for mainstream emergency funds from ACE, NLHF and others. We are also discussing recovery support, advice and guidance with other Sector Support Organisations – all of which will be disseminated to the sector once available.

National communications are being disseminated to MDN members on a weekly basis.
