During Covid-19, MDN is working with colleagues and partners to support the museum sector. In particular, we are following the government’s guidance plus advice from our funders and the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport.
The MDN committee continues to meet on a quarterly basis. In addition, Committee leads are meeting virtually twice monthly to share regional news and intelligence, identify museums and collections at risk, discuss emergency funding packages and local responses to the Coronavirus.
In June 2020, MDN and AIM jointly published re-opening guidance for museums. This is a companion piece and should be read alongside the reopening guidance published by the National Museum Directors Conference. Both publications are available on our Learning and Resources page.
In a new and innovative partnership, Art Fund has contributed £280,000 to Museum Development Network to support Recovery Grant programmes. The funding will reach museums across all nations of the UK who have not yet received emergency public funding or smaller museums fulfilling specific cultural and local needs. Further information is available here.
We are also discussing recovery support, advice and guidance with other Sector Support Organisations – all of which will be disseminated to the sector once available.
National communications are being disseminated to MDN members on a weekly basis and resources for the sector to support recovery phase are regularly updated via our blog.
