Museum Development Network publish strategic consultancy review
The Museum Development Network (MDN) commissioned a strategic review in 2017, supported by AIM and kindly funded by the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation, to look how MDN could work more collaboratively nationally, and to explore potential options for working beyond 2022.
This review was delivered by Mairead O’Rourke of Culture Runner, and included a consultation with Museum Development teams across England, including a workforce survey and four workshops focussing on the values of Museum Development, and how Museum Development could improve collaborative working. It also included a workshop with the MDN Committee and consultation with the English regional chairs and sponsors from the host organisations to discuss the future of the Network.
Based on the consultation carried out above, this report provides MDN with key values, including a vision and mission statement, and an outline of core values for Museum Development which can be used to communicate Museum Development across the sector and more widely.
The report also outlines suggested actions for the future of the Network to ensure that the MD workforce are provided with continued professional development to enable high quality delivery to the museum sector. It also provides recommendations on how the Network can strengthen collaborative working to enable the sharing of best practice across the UK.
